Given in memory of William Menelaus (1818–82), by his his cousins C.J. Darling and W.L. Darling. Menelaus was a managing partner at the Dowlais Ironworks, and a notable art collector and patron.
The same design for the figure of David was used at the Church of St Michael and All Angels, Hughenden, Buckinghamshire, in a window commemorating 'the escape of Queen Victoria at Windsor 2 Mar 1882', for which see Stained Glass of Buckinghamshire Churches
