about 1877

Three-light window. Seated figure of Christ in the central light with figures in the outer lights, including royal figures, a kneeling knight, bishops, a cowled man holding a cross and a woman holding a sheaf of wheat. Musical angels in the tracery, with St Michael holding a sword and scales.

firm/studio: John Hardman & Co.
designer: John Hardman Powell

Church of St Cynllo, Llangynllo, Ceredigion
east wall of the chancel

Given in memory of Sir Thomas Lloyd, Bart. (died 1877), the patron who funded the building of the church.

The identities of the figures are not clear, although some identifications are possible. For example the bishop in the left-hand light appears to be David, with the dove of the Holy Spirit at his ear, while the king opposite in the right-hand light seems to be holding a harp, and is likely to represent the Old Testament David. Below him the woman with a sheaf of wheat may be Ruth, who is depicted elsewhere in the church.
