St Gildas
Gildas was the author of the sixth-century text De Excidio et Conquestu Britanniae (On the Ruin and Conquest of Britain), providing a rare insight into the post-Roman period in Britain. His dates and location within Britain have been widely debated. Although no churches are known to have been dedicated to him in Wales, a saintly cult of Gildas flourished in Brittany at Saint-Gildas de Rhuys.
