Edward the Confessor
Edward (died 1066), was king of England (1042–66). He was buried in Westminster Abbey, the large Romanesque church that he had built. He was canonised in 1161 and regarded as one of the principal patrons of England, before being largely supplanted by the popularity of George in the fifteenth century.
