St Denys of France
Third-century bishop of Paris and martyr. Denys (or Dennis) was a patron of France through his association with its capital, and the abbey dedicated to him was used as a place of burial for French kings. He was conflated with Dionysius, a disciple of the apostle Paul who was converted in Athens.
