St David
David (Welsh: Dewi) is celebrated as the patron saint of Wales. In the Middle Ages, churches dedicated to him were found across the southern half of Wales and in Ireland, Cornwall and Brittany. His association with the Welsh nation has ensured that churches dedicated to him are widespread across the world today. Latin and Welsh Lives of David attest many of the traditions about him and an inscription found at Llanddewi Brefi attests his patronage there in the ninth century. His principal shrine was located at St Davids Cathedral until its destruction in the Reformation.
He is often shown with a dove.
