St Christopher, the giant and martyr Christophorus

Early Christian martyr made famous in the Golden Legend as Christopher (Christ-bearer), who carried Christ, as a child, across a river. Although relatively few churches were dedicated to him, Christopher's image, carrying the boy-Christ, appears to have been particularly common in wall paintings in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
